About the Young Person Action Group

Do you have a vision for your local park and the ambition to make it a reality? The Youth Action Group is making that happen.

Future Proof Parks is harnessing the energies and talents of young people and, through advice and training, encouraging them to support local heritage groups and ensuring their voice can heard throughout the programme.

What does the Youth Action Group Do?

Over several online sessions, the Youth Action Group, with partners Groundwork and National Youth Agency, are exploring:

  • Current issues facing young people and local green spaces, with themed sessions and guest speakers
  • How to set up a successful media campaign – exploring new platforms and ideas to engage young audience!
  • How to implement campaign action – exploring activities for young people and local communities, from pop up events or volunteering!
  • Key digital and media skills, such as graphic design, podcast creation, film, and photography, with an accreditation for attending all sessions!

What are the Youth Action Group gaining?

  • The practical skills and experience required to create digital campaigns including digital content creation.
  • A CV boost with an accreditation in digital campaign skills upon completion of the programme.
  • Increased confidence and leadership skills.
  • Networking with like-minded young people, community groups and Groundwork staff.
  • Real change-making for your local area and community.

What are the Youth Action Group gaining?

Sessions take place every few weeks (see below), with optional tasks in-between. Whilst we would like you to attend all sessions, we appreciate you may not be able to, so please note that the accreditation is applicable to those who complete the full programme. A certificate of participation is available for those who attend on a more flexible basis.

In Between Sessions

We will be organising some interesting, fun, and optional tasks in between sessions, from photography to creating your own 60 second podcast challenge. You will be provided with access to our campaign Padlet to scrapbook ideas and share new content.

About Future Proof Parks

Future Proof Parks is a Heritage Lottery Fund programme part of the £10m Kick the Dust initiative that aims to get more young people interested and involved in preserving their local park and greenspace heritage.

The National Youth Agency is a partner on this programme with Fields in Trust and led by Groundwork. The three-year programme will engage 880 young people across the UK with the aim that at least 180 young people will take on leadership roles within the programme. The National Youth Agency will be delivering training for young people and managing the Young Persons Action Group who will be steering the programme and creating a young people’s manifesto that will capture learning from the work.
