The first ever youth sector census has been launched.  As the national body for youth work in England, NYA has a formal role to support the whole youth sector. We want to hear from all organisations, community groups, youth services and local authorities who deliver youth services or out of school activities in England.

The census is a critical step to secure the health and vibrancy of the sector. The data will help organisations and communities to better understand what is needed, to create more opportunities with young people. It will be used to inform policymakers, funders and commissioners for financial support, practical resources, training and safeguarding.

Leigh Middleton, NYA CEO commented,

“As a nation, we must put young people at the heart of Covid-recovery, and support them over the long term. The new census will provide essential information to plan, invest in and support the youth sector. It will help communities know where provision is in their area, to strengthen links to other services and out of school activities, and support a local youth offer for all young people – ensuring they have somewhere to go, something to do and a trusted adult, skilled to support them.

Whether you are a community group of volunteers and young people, local authority service, youth charity or organisation, it is vitally important we hear from you.  Together we can make a real difference to support young people in the present, ambitious for their future.”

Some organisations are pre-registered and will receive a unique link to complete the census.  If you have not received an email with a unique link, or wish to register your organisation or community group, please use the registration form: https://nya.org.uk/national-youth-sector-census/

Early census returns are welcome. The closing date is 30th June 2021.
