Youth Matters: Delivering the National Youth Strategy Together roadshow

The National Youth Strategy, ‘Youth Matters’, sets out a ten-year vision for young people with three bold shifts: from national to local, from fragmented to collaborative, and from excluded to empowered.

Now it is time to turn that strategy into action.

Join us at a National Youth Strategy regional roadshow in your area to help shape what happens next in your area.

Who should attend?

If you work with young people or your work impacts their lives, these events are for you:
  • Youth workers, youth work leaders, and practitioners (local authority and charities/community organisations)
  • Education professionals, health and wellbeing staff, housing professionals, and those working in crime prevention
  • Local authority decision-makers, service managers, councillors, and funders

Why attend?

At your regional roadshow, you will:

  • Understand how the National Youth Strategy connects to the realities young people face in your region and what it means for your work.
  • Access regional data and insights from DCMS, NYA, UK Youth and your Regional Youth Work Unit.
  • Connect with cross sector partners and senior national leaders, breaking down silos and building shared solutions that increase impact.
  • Shape practical next steps for local implementation, including what needs to happen as soon as you are back at your desk.

Why are these events different?

  • A national framework with local solutions shaped by your community
  • Cross sector collaboration reflecting how young people actually live their lives
  • Honest conversations about funding, priorities and delivery
  • Opportunities to influence national progress and the two-year strategic review
  • Clear insights to strengthen your services and partnerships

This works because you are there

Whether you are in education, health, youth work, policing, housing or community leadership, your voice is needed to ensure the strategy delivers for the young people who need it most.

This is your opportunity to influence the next decade of youth support in your region.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm not a youth worker – is this relevant to me?

Absolutely. If you work with young people or your work impacts their lives, this strategy is for you. We’re specifically inviting professionals from youth work, education, health, housing, crime prevention, and community safety sectors. The strategy recognises that young people’s lives don’t fit in single-service boxes, so neither should our response. Your expertise from your sector is essential.

How will my input be used?

Your input matters in three specific ways:

  1. Local implementation (immediate):
    • Regional Youth Work Units and stakeholders will use feedback to shape local youth offers
    • Your insights inform what’s prioritised in your area e.g. workforce development, specific services, partnership approaches
    • Identified gaps and needs influence how funding is allocated locally

  1. National strategy development (ongoing):
    • Feedback from all roadshows is collated and shared with DCMS, NYA, UK Youth, and partners which will inform future policy
    • Common themes inform how national programmes (Young Futures Hubs, Better Youth Spaces, workforce development) are rolled out
    • Your experience helps refine what works and what needs adjusting

  1. Accountability (long-term):
    • Outcomes from roadshows feed into the two-year strategy review
    • Your voice helps ensure this strategy stays active and responds to local need

Will there be follow-up support after the event?

Yes. If you share your email with the event organisers, after the roadshow you’ll receive:

  • All presentations and resources shared at the event
  • Contact details for your Regional Youth Work Unit to stay in touch about local implementation
  • Links to funding opportunities and application support
  • Summary of key themes from your regional discussions
  • The opportunity to sign up to sector newsletters from partner organisations

Can I bring colleagues from different services?

Yes, we actively encourage this! Please ask them to register for the event in your/their area. The strategy is built on cross-sector collaboration, so bringing colleagues from different services is exactly what we want.

What if I can't attend in person?

We understand that geography, capacity, or other commitments may prevent in-person attendance. There will be a chance to attend a shorter online event in March.

If accessibility needs prevent attendance (childcare, mobility, adjustments), please contact events@nya.org.uk to discuss what support might make attendance possible.

How is this different from the youth-focused events?

Both sets of events are essential but serve different purposes. Young people must be at the heart of this strategy, but practitioners need professional development, resources, and networks to deliver it effectively. The youth events ensure young people’s voices are heard directly, not filtered through adults. The practitioner events ensure adults are equipped to listen and act on what young people tell us.

If you work with young people who want to attend youth-focused events: events@nya.org.uk

Will there be opportunities for regional networking?

Yes, networking is a core part of the roadshow design, including during breaks and workshop sessions.

Some regions are also establishing ongoing practitioner networks or communities of practice. Your RYWU can connect you to these opportunities.

Longer term, plans will be rolled out with a two-year review of the impact of the National Youth Strategy at the end of 2027 (including practitioner and young people’s voices).

Implementation will continue to 2034 with continued national, regional and hyper-local engagement.
