The National Youth Sector Advisory board (NYSAB) is a forum for policy and practice for the youth sector, which seeks to present collective insights and inform strategic direction.
About the NYSAB
The National Youth Agency provides the secretariat to the National Youth Sector Advisory Board (NYSAB) which is chaired by Tony Gallagher, OBE, a former Her Majesty’s Inspector.
Our members
Our members are drawn from national organisations and agencies, regional networks, specialist providers, research, professional bodies, funders, local authorities, government, and national agencies. We also have a number of youth representatives.

Meetings
The Board meets quarterly with standing invitations to government departments, led by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport as the sponsor department for youth policies.
Additional meetings are held for detailed discussions or working groups on priority areas identified with board members throughout the year.
Roadmap to a National Youth Strategy
In October 2023 we published our Roadmap to a National Youth Strategy. Developed in consultation with youth sector experts within the NYSAB and with young people, it sets out 15 policy recommendations for national government to bring about a step-change in the way that youth work is recognised and to get youth work better integrated into local strategies and multi-agency pathways.

10-year strategy
A 10-year strategy, co-designed from our collective insights and shared outcomes, provides a focus for the advisory board to support sector-led change, collaboration, and investment with young people.
Its focus is a commitment to quality youth provision and continuous improvement of youth services. It helps make clear to Government what investment is needed and provides a focus for collective action that is sector-led, with young people.
