The National Youth Agency is supporting Bite the Ballot’s campaign to get young people age 16 and over to register to vote ahead of this year’s general election.
This year, National Voter Registration Day will take place on the 5 February and we’re asking those who work with young people to talk to them about the importance of voting registration. Bite the Ballot provides some great resources that will help you do this.
NYA’s Chief Executive, Fiona Blacke said, “Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy. It is the way we communicate how we want our country run. But to vote in the general election you must be registered and that process needs to start now.
“Young people are finding their services are being cut and cut again, and that their voice is not being heard. Voting is an essential part of tackling that, by holding politicians to account for their decisions. I urge all young people to ensure they can take part in choosing the next government and get registered.”
