What's Changed

The participation of young people should result in beneficial tangible outcomes for young people. What’s Changed stories are about celebrating these participation outcomes and demonstrating the positive benefits of participation.

The success of participation activity must be measured by the changes that have resulted on specific issues and concerns raised by children and young people.

‘If the people who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of change do not know that it is happening – then it probably is not happening…’ Lord Herman Ousley, Former Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality.

Why are participation outcomes important?

  • It is the outcomes that demonstrate whether participation is successful.
  • They show that a real change has taken place.
  • Participation outcomes demonstrate that children and young people have a real voice.

What's Changed

What’s Changed is concerned with recording, measuring and reporting the results of children and young people’s participation where a tangible change has taken place. It captures the story of children and young people’s participation, drawing upon their own words and showcases and celebrates their achievements.

What's Changed Publication

The NYA has published Places to go, Things to do- What's Changed as a result of young people's participation.

The publication is a collection of case studies focusing on a key element of the youth offer - things to do, places to go. It clearly demonstrates how young people can make positive, tangible change happen for themselves through participation.
