Young people and the environment
Does your school, youth club or community centre have an environment policy? Have you done an environmental audit?
If you are not sure about the answer to these questions, ask a teacher or youth leader. Schools and youth clubs can teach people about the environment at the same time they take steps to save resources. You may find you can become involved in making decisions about how your school or youth centre becomes more environmentally aware.
One of the first steps to take in developing an environmental policy is to carry out an environmental audit. This way you find out how 'green' your school or club actually is and you can then make recommendations for what needs to be improved.
Do you know your carbon footprint?
Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of green house gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide.
Scientist are forecasting that by 2025 pollution levels will have become so damaging to the environment, that global warming will cause the Greenland icecaps to start melting irreversibly. This will cause sea levels to rise, leading to severe flooding of towns and cities around the world; resulting in large scale death and destruction.
Visit the Carbon Footprint website listed below for more information about what you can do to help our environment.
