When can I leave school?
Although you have a right to full-time state education until your nineteenth birthday, the earliest you can leave school is at 16.
You can leave school when you're 16 years old. The government wants as many students as possible to sit exams. They aim to encourage young people to stay on until the end of the summer term and believes that more young people will get GCSEs if they stay on.
The law says:
You can leave school on the last Friday in June (as long as you're 16 by this day) by the end of the summer holidays.
