Details

York Youth Service are in the process of selecting a Children and Young People's Champion. In some departments Hear By Right and participation practise is already established or advanced. Most primary and secondary schools in the city have school councils, and many organisations that work with Children and young people have established records of involving them.

Local Network Details

York Youth Service has shared the following details about using Hear by Right and young people's participation in the organisation.

Our Main Strengths: Children's trust has strong involvement group - a lot of consultation / involvement work going on and the messages that come out of this are being co-ordinated and fed to decision making bodies.

Our Main Weaknesses: The council adopted the standards in 2003, but the implementation of them across the whole council is difficult. The Children's Trust and Youth Service are working more actively with section of the standards. Taking / monitering action as a result of consultation. How to work with a large and complex model of standards across the whole of the council and other partner organisations. Having the resources to do the work.

Mapping and Planning Tool

Hear by Right is based around the Mapping and Planning tool. This website provides a space for organisations to share their maps and plans using the tool, both in order to share details of what they are doing locally, and to promote learning between organisations.
