Hear by Right Training and Consultancy
A new training package has been developed to support local authorities and voluntary sector partners in using Hear by Right.
Linked to the Hear by Right Award, Hear by Right Top 20 training is an accessible way of using the Hear by Right Standards and is tailored to individual organisational need.
Action Learning Sets are also available for Local Authorities to share paths of success.
Training is delivered by National Youth Agency Associates, Wade Mills Partnership – a leading body on young people’s participation.

Hear by Right Training Packages
The training is available at three levels:
- Hear by Right for Beginners - Starting to Map, Evidence and Plan for Improvement
- The Hear by Right Award - Introduction and Preparing for Assessment
- Hear by Right - Advanced Mapping and Planning
Hear by Right for Beginners – Starting to Map and Plan
A practical course focussed on using the Hear by Right framework to map evidence of current participation and to prioritise the key improvements needed in your organisation. This is based on a new, more accessible version of the participation standards called the Hear by Right Top 20, linking to the NYA’s Hear by Right Award.
What will it cover?
By the end of the course delegates will have:
- Clarified the key definitions of young people’s participation and the benefits for your organisation
- Learned how the Hear by Right standards framework works
- Used Hear by Right to record current evidence of participation in your organisation
- Identified your organisation’s priorities and begun to plan improvements
- Learned about the Hear by Right Award and its relevance for your organisation
Who will benefit?
This course is aimed at mixed teams from your organisation with no previous knowledge of Hear by Right needed. As well as those working directly with children and young people, this course is very relevant for managers and trustees, communications, marketing, fundraising and other corporate colleagues.
The Hear by Right Award – Introduction and Preparing for Assessment
Introducing the new Hear by Right Award, this course takes delegates through the Award criteria and assessment process, working through the evidence needed for your application. We also run Action Learning Sets to allow organisations to share their learning and paths to success.
What will it cover?
By the end of the course delegates will have:
- Knowledge of the Hear by Right standards framework
- Looked at the criteria for the Award and the assessment process
- Mapped your organisation’s participation strengths and weaknesses using the Top Twenty Checker
- Tried out the templates needed for your Award application
- Identified the next steps in preparing for assessment
Who will benefit?

Hear by Right – Advanced Mapping and Planning
An intensive, practical course to produce a complete Hear by Right Map and Plan for your organisation.
What will it cover?
By the end of the course delegates will have:
- Clarified the definitions of young people’s participation and the range of benefits
- Learned how the Hear by Right standards framework works
- Used Hear by Right to record current evidence of participation in your own organisation
- Identified your organisation’s priorities for the improvement of participation and created planning groups to ensure their delivery
- Learned about the Hear by Right Award and its relevance for your organisation
Who will benefit?
This course is aimed at mixed teams of stakeholders from the organisation, including young people where possible, with no previous knowledge of Hear by Right needed. As well as those working directly with children and young people, this course is relevant for managers and trustees, communications, marketing, fundraising and other corporate colleagues.
