Barclays Money Skills 'champions'

Barclays Money Skills 'champions'

Working in partnership with Barclays, the National Youth Agency is leading a consortium of five youth and information charities to deliver the Barclays Money Skills 'champions' project.

Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’ is an innovative peer education project designed to build the financial knowledge and confidence of up to 5,000 young people, and equip them with the skills to share this information with their peer group.

Over a three year period we hope to reach 100,000  young people through this model.

The National Youth Agency will be working with Citizens Advice, Rathbone UK, UK Youth, YouthNet and Youth Access to make this project a success.

Each charity will bring their unique experiences and perspectives to inform the development of this project.

Project Progress

The project is being piloted between September and December 2011 in eight locations throughout England, before a national roll out in early 2012.

Support workers from eight agencies have agreed to participate in the pilot, which will involve up to 160 young people.  Support Workers are now in the process of delivering the peer education training programme to their young people to become Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’.

After training is complete the ‘champions’ will go on to deliver financial capability activities to their peers through either informal or formal peer education opportunities.

Continued support will be provided throughout the life of the pilot to ensure the Support Workers and young ‘champions’ to get the most out of the project.
