Embedding in action – learning from the projects

Each project has shared its key lessons in terms of embedding at both an organisational and operational level.

Embedding your organisational approach

Lewisham

The council advocate harnessing external pressures, including the voluntary sector and funding criteria to generate support. They also used participation champions.

Norfolk

Evidence that project ideas are now clearly firmly embedded are seen in practice; as Members now invite young people on scrutiny panels and involve them in grant making and commissioning ideas.

Wakefield

The programme focussed on creating a culture that embraces learning and encouraging lessons learnt to be built in to future engagement and volunteering activities.

West Sussex

The council has made it common practice to involve young people and to ensure that they are viewed as customers. They used film and magazines to help disseminate the results of the project.

Wirral

The Executive Youth Board plan Wirral’s Annual Youth Parliament which is a full council meeting facilitated by elected members and young people, with open debate in the council chamber. Wirral and Liverpool have their work included in the area plans and service plans for the Youth Service. Wirral had a young person as lead for each Every Child Matters objective with a working group and assigned staff.
