Regional Networks

The NYA continues to work with its regional partners in the Youth Work Units to secure a better regional infrastructure and platform for youth work and youth services.

The NYA contracts the Regional Youth Work Units to provide a firm basis for the partnership working and its role is to support the work of the regions, to provide a structure which enables active and effective communication between all regional advisers and The NYA. Although the regions themselves are independent and responsible for developing, managing and delivering work to meet local and national requirements, the regional advisers have worked with The NYA in order to achieve a better alignment of key priorities and aims for the work which reflect major policy issues.

The NYA works with the RYW Units in order to:

• Share information and contribute to each other's programmes and activities;
• Develop and implement new policy;
• Identify possible funding streams for joint working.

NETWORK OF SCHOOL BASED YOUTH WORKERS

This new network, initiated by youth workers based in schools and colleges, was launched last year with an event held at The NYA. The purpose of the network is to provide an opportunity for youth work practitioners in schools and colleges to:

• Consider the implications for school-based youth work within a changing policy context
• To clarify the youth work contribution to achieving the ECM outcomes and the Youth Matters agenda and the added complexity of extended services
• To share and develop practice.
