The Local Safeguarding Children Board is the statutory body for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, who are responsible for protecting children and young people from significant harm and for promoting their welfare.

Details

The way that children and young people have been involved in the map and plan is something that is under further development - we have worked with children and young people in schools and have used this feedback for our completion of the map and plan. However, we are currently forming a children and young person's subgroup so that they can become more actively involved in everything that we are carrying out, including all aspects of the map and plan. This is something that should be firmly in place by Jan 2010 and a job role has been created to help the running of this subgroup.

Current Level using Hear by Right: Emerging
Our Main Strengths: We are very willing to listen to and actively involve children and young people and are not concerned with making radical changes where possible to the current format of the LSCB in order that we benefit children and young people, so that the service provided for them is governed by them.
Our Main Weaknesses: We are not very well known – following research only a few children and young people had heard of the LSCB so we need to raise awareness about our service.
What we can offer to other in the region: We have carried out research in schools and colleges with interesting feedback. We also have a participation strategy that may be beneficial to others.

Mapping and Planning Tool

Hear by Right is based around the Mapping and Planning tool. This website provides a space for organisations to share their maps and plans using the tool, both in order to share details of what they are doing locally, and to promote learning between organisations.
