All the materials and resources in this section are tried, tested and used by the National Youth Agency. You can download all the resources below for free, or purchase a printed version of the core Hear by Right book from the NYA online shop >>

The Hear by Right standards and the tools developed to compliment them are under the Tools panel. The Hear by Right standards framework is based on the Seven S model of organisational change: Shared values, Strategies, Structures, Systems, Staff, Skills and knowledge and Style of leadership. It relies on self-assessment across three levels: emerging, established and advanced. Each level builds on the last. This ensures that children and young people's involvement is built in and not just bolted on. For more information on the Hear by Right Standards >>

The Building Standards resources can be used to make the original Hear by Right Participation standards accessible to young people. The full resource pack along with a briefing paper and presentation are available on the site. More information on using the Building Standards framework >>

The resources available in this section are the core resources from the Hear by Right toolkit:

Hear by Right Tools

  • Hear by Right Mapping & Planning Tool
This Mapping and planning tool makes it easy and practical to use the Hear by Right standards.
  • What's Changed Tool
This tool links with the Hear by Right Mapping and Planning tool and records the most important evidence of change, which is that from the children and young people themselves. It is essential that they tell their story in their words of evidence of dialogue and evidence of change.
  • What's Changed Tool Children and Young People's Version
Whereas the What's Changed Organisation version tool focuses upon the shared dialogue between the organisation, young people and the wider community, this version allows young people to share their experiences of campaigning for change and enables them to comment upon what has directly changed for them because of their active participation.

Building Standards

  • Building Standards by Young People for Young People
This resource was written by young people and explains in a young person friendly way what the seven standards from Hear by Right mean, why they are important, and how they can be used so that young people become an integral part of the decision making process.
  • Building Standards Resource Pack
The Building Standards framework takes the seven standards of Hear by Right and presents them in a way that is understandable and accessible for children and young people.
