Volunteering for young people

If you are a young person looking for volunteering opportunities, then your first port of call is v – the national youth volunteering organisation.

The v-inspired website contains useful information on volunteering and a search for volunteering opportunities near you.

In 2008, v launched a new flagship full-time volunteering programme called v talent year. This innovative programme engages young volunteers in exciting 44 week volunteering placements in the public sector – enabling them to develop new skills and experiences to support their progression to education, employment or training. All young volunteers are encouraged to undertake a minimum Level 2 qualification, and can apply for a Personal Development Grant of up to £1500 on completion of the programme to support their onward progression.

From March 2009, the scheme is being piloted in 32 local authorities, offering placements to 1000 young volunteers in a range of Children’s and Young People’s Services. v is currently planning the expansion of the v talent year pilot to the education sector during 2009, and is keen to build on the learning and experiences of the Beacon Peer Support Programme in the future development of this scheme.
