Campaign to Inject £5 million into Youth Projects
10 March 2010
O2’s new corporate social responsibility campaign Think Big is designed to support young people aged between 13 and 25 who want to create a project to help their local community by enabling them to apply for grants of £300.
Projects could include helping to fight knife crime, overhauling a community garden, teaching music to other young people or starting a local youth group. The most important thing is that projects are chosen and run by young people.
In addition to the cash injection, the young participants will also benefit from a comprehensive package of training and support, delivered through the National Youth Agency and other charity partners, including UK Youth.
After the initial grant, they will then have the chance to apply for £2,500 to further boost their project.
As part of the National Youth Agency’s role in delivering the programme, in partnership with O2, it has conducted targeted research with young people to ensure that Think Big is informed by youth voices and will benefit those it aims to support.
Fiona Blacke, chief executive at the National Youth Agency, said: “This project will help combat the negative image of young people in the UK and change how they are being portrayed in the media.
“We are delighted to be delivering this project with O2 as it will give young people the opportunity to make a difference to both their own lives, and to their communities.”
