National Youth Agency chief executive Fiona Blacke and development officer Andy Callard have been celebrating the achievements of a group of young people who have been getting “fit” for employment.

Attending the “Go” awards ceremony hosted by the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, sponsored by Morgan Hunt, Fiona and Andy had the opportunity to meet with new graduates of the charity’s “Get on Track” programme.

Get on Track is an initiative to help jobless young people through mentoring and guidance from the Trust’s team of world class sports performers.

Fiona Blacke, National Youth Agency chief executive commented: “We were honoured to attend such a glittering celebration of young people’s achievements and hearing about the challenges they had undertaken under the guidance of some of the world’s top athletes.

“It was amazing to hear how the course had helped young people develop their confidence and give them a sense of self-belief to support them in finding suitable employment in the future.”

The Get on Track programme provides stepping stones to volunteering, training, work placements and employment for disadvantaged young people.

Funded by Comic Relief and piloted in Liverpool and Reading, the programme is supported by elite athlete mentors Adam Whitehead (Olympian and Commonwealth champion), Jenna Dowling (Extreme Inline Skating world champion), Neil Danns (Skatboarding European Champion) and Mike Mullen (BMX World Champion).
