News Release

The 19-year old, who herself was a former young offender, will be sharing her perspectives on how to improve the employability of young offenders, as part of an expert panel at the Local Government Association Youth Offending Conference.

The conference theme this year is ‘Youth Offending: Responsibility, Resettlement and Results’ and will seek to discuss pertinent and emerging issues that may feature in this autumn’s green paper on youth offending.

Jodie McNamara comments: “This conference will provide an open discussion around the real issues facing young people when they are trying to turn their lives around.

“Without the right support in place it is more than difficult to get help and I hope that this event will provide a forum to gain a real understanding of what is needed to make a difference to young people’s lives.”

A short film created by the National Youth Agency on behalf of the Local Government Association will also be showcased at the event.  The film features the true-life stories of young offenders and aims to highlight the issues and experiences of young offenders in relation to resettlement, training and employment.
