Good News for Healthy Youth Work in Ofsted Annual Report
Ofsted has published its annual report on the state of the country's education system, children's services and skills. The report finds the majority of children and young people’s services are working well together, and where these services are good, they make a real difference to children's lives and their life chances. The report also finds that health is a key part of last year’s strong youth work performances, noting that ‘the contribution made by youth workers to sexual health programmes, and in developing an effective voice for young people in local areas, is a very strong feature’.
Richard Mckie, Senior Development Officer for Health at NYA, welcomed this significant finding and went on to comment that “This is very good news for youth work and confirms the picture that we have been seeing across youth work practice in the last 4 years. At NYA we are working hard with the Department of Health to further support services and staff to raise their game in other areas of young people’s health, including mental health, work on substance use and healthy lifestyles. In an age of integrated services, all of these issues need to be worked holistically, and youth work can offer much in this respect.”
