United Kingdom and Ireland (Joint ETS)

Recognised Qualifications in the United Kingdom and Ireland

The NYA professionally validates professional training programmes in England.

Similar validation procedures exist in Wales, Scotland, and jointly in Ireland and Northern Ireland. These procedures are coordinated with The NYA’s work through the six monthly meetings of the Joint ETS, a group formed of all the ETS committees in the UK and Ireland.

‘Terms of Reference’ have been agreed for the Joint ETS - a copy of these are available to download below along with the minutes from the last two meetings of the Joint ETS:

The Joint ETS have also agreed that qualifications recognised by the individual ETS's (covering England, Ireland, and Northern Ireland jointly), Scotland and Wales) are mutually recognised as fullilling the JNC requirements. See the Mutual Recognition (June 2007) document as agreed by the Joint ETS.

The only exception to this mutuality of recognition covers the period post 1991 when Scotland set an honours degree minimum standard for all workers in Scotland. Workers qualified at DipHE level and Foundation Degree level in England, Ireland and Northern Ireland, and Wales wishing to work in Scotland from that date onwards will, therefore, need additional support from their prospective employer to top-up their qualification to the required level.

The courses recognised by the JNC across the UK and Ireland are listed on the Professional Qualifications page >>
