Stage 6: Research Ethics

Information to help you think about the ethical considerations of your research project.

Your research should aim to do no harm, and to help and be useful to other people. To achieve this, researchers should:

  • Be honest
  • Think about how their project might affect those taking part
  • Get permission from their participants
  • Respect others’ privacy
  • Keep things confidential
  • Know how to handle disclosures
  • Have details of support services
  • Protect their data
  • Feedback to people

To do this you may need to prepare some materials, such as consent forms or information leaflets. Please see attached links for example materials.
