Research 4 Change Event - July 2008

This event aimed to help young researchers, from the Young Researcher Network (YRN), see their research as a useful campaigning tool. Downloads are available that will help other young researchers start to develop action plans to use their Research-4-Change.

Young People’s Research can be used as part of a campaign for change. Young people from the network are busy conducting research on issues that they have identified as relevant for them. These fall broadly into three research themes:

  • Health and Social Care
  • Identity and Representation
  • Positive Activities

The Research 4 Change Event held in July at The NYA was designed to help the young researcher network (YRN) start planning and thinking about how best to use their research to create change.

The event consisted of a number of workshops using Act By Right exercises that helped young researchers to:

  • Identify forces that may help and hinder the group reaching its goal
  • Generate a list of people and organisations they need to contact and why
  • Develop a sound bite, key message or image to publicise their research
  • Develop a communication strategy

At the end of the event network partners had begun drafting an action plan to use their Research 4 Change!
