Rob Hunter's Consultant profile.

Rob Hunter

Rob Hunter has worked as a fieldworker, trainer and manager in the statutory and voluntary youth work sectors for over 30 years. After starting out as a fieldworker and assistant field director with what is now the Community Development Foundation, he trained youth and community workers at Westhill College before returning to the field as the Vice Principal (Community) of a Leicestershire community college.

In the 1980s he led Birmingham AEYC Service's Training and Special Projects Team and then spent 6 years as an officer and adviser with Leicestershire Community Education Service. Since going freelance in 1993, he has undertaken substantial training and consultancy work with the NYA, fpm, De Montfort and Warwick universities, and several individual local authorities and voluntary organisations.  He has evaluated three voluntary sector Youth Work Development Grant programmes and has been project manager of both The NYA / Reading Agency YouthBoox programmes and the PIN-funded East Midlands RYWU Curriculum Project on open access youth work.

For the past ten years he has been particularly interested in the relevance of emotional literacy to youth work, not only to young people's development but also that of staff and indeed to the development of youth work organisations as a whole. He especially enjoys working on curriculum, staff development and quality assurance issues, building communities of practice in youth work, and in helping organisations develop as learning and emotionally literate organisations.
