It’s back – the best-selling sex education resource - SEXplanation

7 Nov 2008
PRESS RELEASE – For immediate release

When it comes to sex, what’s the safest, most reliable and most satisfying way … of talking about it?

Just in time to coincide with new initiatives around personal, social and health education The National Youth Agency has relaunched its classic youth work resource, the Grapevine Game. Given a 21st century makeover and retitled Sexplanation! it retains its board game format which has been shown to open up honest, frank and informative discussions around sex and relationships.

The new version has been updated and trialled with the help of young people themselves. Further expertise and financial support came from leading sexual health charity Brook.

Fiona Blacke, Chief Executive of The National Youth Agency, said: “We are very pleased to be able to introduce Sexplanation!, an updated and refreshed version of the established Grapevine Game, during this year’s Youth Work Week.

“There have been welcome changes and a rapid pace of development in policy and practice around young people’s sexual health over the last decade. However, many challenges remain in this area. There is still a huge demand from young people for full and frank discussion with robust information from a trusted adult to help them make positive choices about their sexual health and activity.

“Being young and developing confidence in yourself and your sexuality is exciting. It can also be scary without the right education and support. The need to equip young people with the skills to navigate their relationships and take responsibility for their sexual wellbeing is as important now as it has ever been.”

Suitable for young people aged 11 and over Sexplanation! is set to become a vital resource and well-used feature of all good youth projects. Indeed, one local authority in the East Midlands has ordered 65 copies prior to the launch.
