myplace - improving youth facilities

myplace is designed to kick start the Government’s vision for improving youth facilities outlined in Aiming high for young people: a ten year strategy for positive activities.

myplace

  • myplace launched 3 April 2008
  • it will be delivered by The Big Lottery Fund on behalf of the DCSF
  • myplace will deliver £190m of Government capital investment over the next three years through grants of between £1m and £5m
  • first round myplace applications will open on 6 May
  • a second funding round will begin in early 2009 where a further £30m will be available

In response to the announcement Fiona Blacke, Chief Executive of The NYA commented 'I believe myplace will drive a major change in the way places for young people are designed and delivered. It provides a significant opportunity to promote, improve and extend youth services across England by supporting those with ambition and vision to deliver world class places for young people to go within the wider context of local strategic planning."

Bids must:

  • demonstrate partnership between public and third and/or private sector organisations (any can lead the bid for funding)
  • demonstrate long term sustainability.

Support:

  • BIG will run 9 regional events to brief potential applicants in May 2008

How to apply

  • BIG are running a competitive process. The first bidding round will open to applications on 6 May.
  • BIG plan to deliver regional briefing sessions for potential bidders- these will be well publicised through the BIG website.

  • Application and guidance materials for the first funding round will be available from 6 May 2008.
  • The deadline for fast track applications is 29 July 2008 and the standard route is 30 September 2008.
