Tory plan to smash 'glass walls' around impoverished children

The Conservative party has launched a five-point plan to tackle exclusion that keeps by children from disadvantaged backgrounds in poverty.

Shadow work and pensions secretary Chris Grayling has announced plans to put 18-24-year-olds living in areas affected by gang crime on work placements. The plan would also include proposals to tackle violent youth crime through police on the beat and a 'revolution' in prison rehabilitation; plans to make sure 16-year-olds take part in a National Citizens Service; and a greater role for the voluntary sector.  Read more>>
