Behaviour of pop stars 'eroding children's moral values'

30 Jun 2008
The majority of parents are concerned about the values children learn from those around them, according to a survey carried out by GfK NOP as part of a two year inquiry by the Children's Society into the state of modern childhood.

A preoccupation with celebrity, increasing commercial pressures and declining networks of support from the family were all cited as negative factors. The survey also found that 69 per cent of adults believed community values amongst children today were not as strong as when they were young. More than half said there was 'more conflict' between adults and children now. Only a third thought that attitudes towards young people in their local neighbourhood were positive and 29 per cent thought that the Government's attitudes to young people were negative.
