Facts and Statistics

The following pages offer a collection of statistics about young people. This is updated every year with the annual publication of Social Trends. Attention given to detailed statistics on young people varies from year to year, therefore the most current statistics in each area have been included.

Statistical information is categorised under the following headings:

GENERAL:

EVERY CHILD MATTERS OUTCOMES

Government policy in England is framed within the five Every Child Matters (ECM) outcomes which monitor the extent to which children and young people are healthy, safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and experience economic wellbeing. The outcomes provide targets and indicators relating to issues such as drug and alcohol use, physical and mental health, anti-social behaviour, sport and cultural activities, voluntary and community engagement, offending levels, school exclusions, young people not in education, employment or training, and community regeneration.

Ofsted publishes an annual TellUs online survey which asks children and young people aged between 10 and 15 in England how they view their lives and how good local authorities are at providing children's services. Results of the survey can be found at: http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/
