Cyber safety
Here are some more tips for making sure too much isn't given away! These rules will protect Internet users from problems or harassment.
- Don't share personal information over the Internet. When shopping online supplying names and addresses is to be expected but be careful if other sites ask for these details too. If you are not happy to provide information like this, leave the site - there are plenty other places to visit on the Internet. If someone threatens you don't panic or send a reply. Bullies need responses. Ignore anything unpleasant that is sent to you and report it to someone you trust.
- Don't be provocative or flirtatious.
- Know when contact is annoying and when it is illegal.
- Competitions are sometimes opportunities for companies to contact you with merchandising information. Make it clear when entering competitions if you do not want to be added to their mailing lists. You don't want to sign up to services you are not requesting.
- Downloading 'free' software - read the terms and conditions in full before agreeing to download anything that claims to be free of charge.
- Sometimes you may receive email from someone you don't know. To avoid downloading computer viruses or inappropriate websites don't open attachments or links if they are not something you are expecting to receive.
- And finally, do not give your password to anyone and don't send your photograph to anyone.
Keep your details safe!
