Tell us about your experience of being NEET
I felt like you had nothing to do but I did have the support of a key worker from the Inclusion Team. Young people are not signposted to services to help them find jobs if they leave education early.
How did you get involved in the Engagement Network project?
I heard about the Engagement Network Programme through a key worker, Emma from the Inclusion Team. I was attending a 12 week programme for NEET young people.
How has it been? Has being involved in the project helped you? If so how?
I really enjoyed meeting other NEET young people from different cities and finding that they had issues about being NEET too. The project has really motivated me to push myself and I am now looking for work in areas I am interested in such as working with the elderly or in a kitchen. I have also made a lot of new friends.
Tell us where you’re at now… what are you up to and what would you like to do in the future – what are your aims and ambitions?
I am still engaging with the Inclusion Team and I am developing the new 12 week NEET programme for the new group in Bradford. I eventually want to work with the elderly or train to work in a professional kitchen.
What would you like your group to achieve in your area?
I would like more young people to get help with their NEET issues. I would like to meet with local decision-makers to help them realise what it is like for NEET young people. I would also like to make plans with them to help make a difference in Bradford.
