On the first day we all went to Connexions in Shoebury and there we met a lady called Wendy, she told us about what was expected of us, she told us that we were going to work with other young people and complete a research project, our task was to investigate support services that work with NEET young people (not in education, employment or training), its basically our job to talk to local councillors, council staff, training providers, colleges and career services and to ask them a series of questions, and to see how they are contributing to the welfare of NEET young people, and at the end of our research we get to present as a group our findings and what we make of them at a local event, I must admit at first when I heard that we were going to do a presentation I was a little bit nervous because I’m not great with public speaking but Wendy said that it was our chance to get our voices heard and not many young people get the opportunity to do this, and I realised that it would be great achievement to not only overcome a fear but to be able to represent the youths in our community. Everyone else in the group seemed to feel the same, they wanted there voices heard because after leaving school and not getting to a great start we wanted to change things not only for ourselves but for other people as well. everyone had fun and I think the day was successful and I look forward to having more days like this.
