The NYA Blog

Hi, my name is Belinda Fumai!

I applied to do some work experience at the National Young Agency because I did an internship here in summer and I enjoyed it. Also with the field of work I want to get into I thought I would benefit from working here because I would be able to mingle with people who might be able to offer me help and support.
My internship is two weeks long and during those weeks I’ll be working on different projects like The Youth of Today and Shine Festival. I will also be involved in other projects.

I look forward to having a great time but also at the same time learning…
And now its time to go!
I really can`t believe that I now have to leave the NYA! It’s been such an amazing two weeks though it seems like it’s only been two days. I have enjoyed myself incredibly and really wish I could stay forever.
The staff has been amazing – always there when I needed help and ever so kind to me. Many thanks to them especially Darren who had to cope with me everyday…
I haven’t only been enjoying myself but I have also been getting down to some serious business. I did seven reviews on what the NYA and some young people are up to – like what projects they are doing and how they benefit young people - that kind of stuff! Watch out for them on the website! I also had to sit and discuss potential projects with some of the workers.
It’s been a busy two weeks for me –w ork, work and work, but I loved every bit of it.
Looking ahead...
I know I have finished my placement but the good thing is I’ll still be working with the NYA staff on some of the projects. This weekend I’ll be heading down to Kent where I’ll be helping Zelda train some young people on Leadership.
Thanks!
I just want to thank the NYA for offering me this placement and being so supportive to me. Also just a warning: they haven’t seen enough of me yet; I’ll still be coming in every now and then just to see how they are and do a bit more work on The Youth of Today.
I’m really looking forward to the weekend and can’t wait!! And I’ll miss working here! It’s been a brilliant opportunity!!
Belinda reminds us all of how talented and enthusiastic young people are and how we all need to support young people to fulfill their potential and ensure that they have the opportunities to contribute. I am thrilled that she has greed to be part of the Shine Week Young People's Advisory Group who are helping to steer the NYA led National Youth Festival into 2010. The photos included in Belinda's blog show her helping get things off to a great start at the handover event at the House of Lords on November 5th. Belinda and all the young people involved have given Shine a great boost and I am sure will help us to deliver an exciting, creative and participatory celebration of all young people's talents.
