Title: National Youth Agency - Barclays Money Skills Advisory Volunteer 

The NYA is recruiting volunteers to assist and shape the Barclay Money Skills ‘champions’ project and also monitor and evaluate the process to ensure the programme is effective and realistic to the overall benefits of young people. 

Tasks: 

  • Attend regular programme meetings as required
  • Provide NYA staff advice and feedback on the Barclays Money Skills ‘Champions’ programme
  • Give key feedback on any materials/ training developed
  • Take part in monitoring and evaluating the different stages of the project
  • Attend training events, such as presentation and facilitation skills, public speaking, evaluation, report writing, writing articles, and dealing with the media
  • Promote Barclays Money Skills Champions in both your local areas and also at a national level 

We understand that not all young people will have had many experiences in this setting, but NYA staff will support and assist the successful candidates in the development of skills and training. 

The initial volunteer position will be for 10 hours per month (hours will vary month to month) for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. This is a volunteer post but expenses will be paid.

Essential: 

  • Aged 18-21
  • Keen to enhance and develop skills
  • Passionate to make a change to young people’s money skills/issues
  • Confident to travel around the country (either independently or supported) as required
  • Able to contribute to an effective and realistic programme which will benefit all young people
  • Be a positive ambassador for the programme and also for all young people
  • Reliable and consistent (e.g. keeping in contact, good time keeping)
  • Self- motivated
  • Have personal experience of being NEET (not in education, employment or training) to bring an element of reality and understanding of how difficult and challenging it can be for young people in the current climate and share your expertise of how best to overcome it. 

Desirable Skills and Qualities: 

  • Good and clear communication skills
  • Experiences of contributing to meetings, such as an advisory group
  • Understanding of issues facing young people
  • Previous experience of public speaking either to large or smaller groups
  • Computer literate- able to write and send emails also know how to use Microsoft software
