Making it Happen
Putting volunteering into practice, whether as an organisational wide approach or as an individual project, needs careful planning, delivery, embedding and sustaining to make it effective – without each component, your endeavours have more chance of failing to provide what you envisaged.
Each component is essential to bringing about long lasting change for your organisation and the volunteers you enable, but they are not necessarily sequential, so consider each one before you begin!

Each component provides you with:
- What – the key features of the component, examples of what actions can to be taken and issues to consider to bring about success
- Why – evidence both from staff and volunteers involved as well as what independent research said about the actions and impact of this volunteering programme
- How – practical resources to use and case study examples from the projects
